Before you look at the frames, we suggest you select
a new prescription safety frame that is similar
in size and shape to your current eyeglass frame.
Please take a few moments and identify some measurements
on your current eyeglass frame.
The measurements we need are the eye size (horizontal lens distance),
distance between lenses (DBL), temple length, and total width of your current
eyeglasses. After you locate these measurements we will write
them down in a minute.
Note: All optical measurements are measured in millimeters (mm). Please
obtain a ruler with millimeter units on it.
The eye size and DBL measurements are imprinted
together, separated by a dash or small block figure,
such as 50-18, or 54-19. The measurements may be
imprinted on the inside temples or on the bridge
(metal piece that connects the two lenses). Jot
down your eye size and DBL now. Note: If the
measurements have faded away due to age of the frame,
you can always take the measurements yourself, using
a millimeter ruler. In fact, we suggest you
take the measurements manually anyway, to prove
your findings imprinted on the safety frame.
We suggest your new safety frame be within 1 to
3 millimeters of your current eye size and DBL.
All available sizes and colors of the frames will
be listed in the online catalog.
The temple length will be imprinted on one of your temples. Common
temple lengths are 135mm, 140mm, or 145mm. Jot down your temple
length now.
The total width of your eyeglasses is not stated on your frame, so
obtain a ruler with millimeter units and take the measurement yourself.
Take off your glasses and measure the total horizontal width, from the
outside of the left temple to the outside of the right temple of your
eyeglasses. The total width for most adult eyeglasses is between 135mm and
150mm. Jot down your total temple length now.
Jot your eye size, DBL, temple length and total width on Part 2 of the
questionnaire now, in millimeter units.
